These terms of sale (the “Terms”) apply when a consumer buys a license for Séance, the Mac app, online. They describe Séance, its price, how you buy and receive it, and your rights, including those the law guarantees you in every case.

This English version is a translation provided for convenience. In case of discrepancy, the French version prevails, to the extent permitted by the law of your country of residence. Nothing in these Terms affects the mandatory consumer rights you have under the law of the country where you live.

Summary

  • Free trial for 14 days, with every feature, no account and no payment details.
  • Lifetime license: a single payment, no subscription. US$10, or €10 including VAT in the eurozone (France included).
  • Reseller: Paddle takes payment, issues your invoice and handles taxes; we publish Séance and license it to you.
  • License key sent by email right after payment.
  • Withdrawal: if you live in the EU, accepting immediate delivery of the key means you lose the 14-day right of withdrawal, but you can still get a full refund, no questions asked, within 30 days, wherever you live.
  • Your guarantees: legal guarantee of conformity, guarantee against hidden defects, free email support and free consumer mediation.
  • Language: Séance’s interface is currently available in French only.

The parties

The publisher: EURL ZENATI, a French single-member limited liability company (EURL) with a share capital of €100.00, whose registered office is at 60 rue François Ier, 75008 Paris, France, registered with the Trade and Companies Register (RCS Paris 981 830 227), EU VAT number FR42 981 830 227. Phone: +33 1 86 26 99 70. Email: [email protected]. The publisher designs Séance, owns the rights to it and licenses it to you (“we”, “us”).

The reseller: Paddle.com Market Limited (Paddle), Judd House, 18-29 Mora Street, London EC1V 8BT, United Kingdom, or the company of its group named in its terms for your country. As Séance’s authorized reseller (“Merchant of Record”), it sells you the license in its own name: it takes payment, issues the invoice, collects VAT or sales tax and carries out refunds, under its buyer terms.

You: an individual buying Séance for private purposes, as a consumer. Séance is intended for private use; for any other use, please contact us before buying.

Contract documents

Your purchase is governed by:

  1. the reseller’s buyer terms, for the transaction itself (order, payment, invoice, taxes, processing of refunds);
  2. these Terms, for everything about Séance and our commitments to you;
  3. the license agreement, which sets out what you may do with Séance.

These documents are available before purchase from the Pricing page, and you accept them when you place your order. If they conflict, the reseller’s terms prevail for the transaction, and these Terms and the license agreement prevail for Séance. None of them can deprive you of your statutory rights, and any doubt about their meaning is resolved in the consumer’s favor (Article L211-1 of the French Consumer Code).

We recommend that you save or print these Terms and the license agreement, for example as a PDF from your browser, so you can refer to them later. They are also sent to you with your license key. On request, we will provide them in a format accessible to people with disabilities.

The version that applies to your purchase is the one in force on the date of your order.

About Séance

Features

Séance is a personal media library app for Mac. It:

  • catalogs the video files you own (movies, series, home videos) on the internal, external or network drives you point it to;
  • fetches information about each title once (posters, synopses, cast…) from third-party data services, then works fully offline;
  • plays your videos in a built-in player (audio tracks, subtitles, AirPlay, picture in picture);
  • offers a profile for each member of your household, including a kids mode;
  • can, when you ask it to, rename and sort your files (the “Ranger mes fichiers” feature) or copy titles to your Mac (“Rapatrier sur ce Mac”);
  • on compatible Macs, offers Apple Intelligence features that run on device: “Précédemment…” (previously on) recaps, translation of synopses into French, and suggestions.

Séance does not provide any movies, series or videos: it organizes and plays your own files.

Requirements and compatibility

  • Language: Séance’s interface is currently available in French only. Title information is fetched in French where available, otherwise in English.
  • System: macOS 26 or later, on a Mac with Apple silicon. Séance does not run on Intel-based Macs.
  • Apple Intelligence: these optional features require a compatible Mac, with Apple Intelligence turned on and available in your language and region.
  • Formats: MP4, M4V and MOV files play directly; playback of other common formats (MKV, AVI, TS…) relies on the open-source FFmpeg software, which is included with Séance (see the license agreement).
  • Subtitles: SRT, WebVTT and ASS/SSA files placed next to the video, and text subtitle tracks embedded in files.
  • Local information: Séance reads .nfo files (Kodi format) and images placed next to your videos.
  • Drives: internal and external drives, and network shares mounted in macOS (NAS…), once access is allowed in macOS settings.
  • Internet connection: needed to download Séance and to fetch title information; everything else works offline.
  • Protected files: Séance is not designed to play files protected by technological protection measures (DRM) and does not circumvent any.
  • Installation: direct download from our website, outside the Mac App Store; the app is signed by its publisher with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple. The license may only be used on your personal Macs (see “Lifetime license”).

Free trial

  • The trial lasts 14 days from the first launch of Séance and includes every feature.
  • It is free and without obligation: no account or payment details are needed, and it never turns into a purchase.
  • When the trial ends, you need a license to keep using Séance. Your videos are left untouched, and your library and settings stay on your Mac, ready for when you activate a license.
  • The trial is governed by the license agreement. Because it is free and requires no personal data, the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content does not apply to it; your other rights are preserved.

Price and payment

Price

  • The lifetime license is sold for a single payment: no subscription, no renewal, no recurring fees.
  • Outside the eurozone, the price is US$10, or its equivalent in another currency offered by the reseller, and may vary with the taxes that apply in your country.
  • In the eurozone, France included, the price is €10 including VAT.
  • The total price, including all taxes, is always shown on the checkout page before you confirm your order.
  • There are no other charges: no delivery, support, maintenance or update fees. Any currency conversion or bank fees charged by your bank are your responsibility.
  • The applicable price is the one shown when you order. The current price is always on the Pricing page; a price change does not affect licenses already bought.

Ordering

  1. On the Pricing page, the buy button takes you to the reseller’s secure checkout page.
  2. You enter your email address, country and payment method. The reseller shows an order summary with the total price and lets you correct any errors before you confirm.
  3. You expressly agree to the immediate supply of your license key and acknowledge that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal, where you have one (see “Right of withdrawal”).
  4. You confirm the order, which involves an obligation to pay. The contract is formed when payment is confirmed.
  5. The reseller sends you an order confirmation and the invoice; your license key is sent to you by email.

Payment

Payment is due when you order. Accepted payment methods are those offered on the reseller’s checkout page (card and other methods depending on your country). Your payment details are processed by the reseller and its payment providers: we never have access to them.

Delivery of the key

  • Your license key is emailed to the address you gave when ordering, as soon as payment is confirmed, usually within minutes.
  • If it has not arrived within an hour, check your spam folder, then email us: we will send it again. We can also resend it later if you lose it.
  • Séance is supplied as soon as the key is made available to you; the app itself can be downloaded at any time from the Download page.
  • If the key is not supplied without undue delay, you may formally call on us to supply it; if we still do not, you may end the contract and get a full refund (Article L224-25-11 of the French Consumer Code).

Lifetime license

The lifetime license lets you use Séance:

  • with no time limit: you pay once, with no subscription or renewal, and use Séance for as long as you like, for the whole term of copyright protection of the software;
  • on all your personal Macs, with no limit on their number;
  • for you and your household, privately: no commercial or professional use, and no public screenings;
  • with every update to Séance that we release, at no extra cost.

To unlock Séance, you enter your key in the app, without creating an account. The key is personal: do not share it outside your household. You may transfer your license to someone else under the conditions of the license agreement, which sets out all your rights.

“Lifetime” does not mean that Séance will run forever on every future version of macOS and every future Mac. We commit to supplying the updates needed to keep Séance in conformity, including security updates, for at least two years from your purchase (see “Legal guarantees”). Beyond that, we will keep improving Séance for as long as we can, but we cannot guarantee compatibility with future versions of macOS. Features that rely on third-party services (title information, Apple Intelligence) also depend on those services remaining available.

Right of withdrawal

If you live in the European Union, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase without giving a reason (Article L221-18 of the French Consumer Code, implementing Directive 2011/83/EU). For digital content supplied without a tangible medium, such as Séance, this period starts when the contract is concluded.

However, Article L221-28 of the French Consumer Code excludes this right in the following case (unofficial translation):

“The right of withdrawal may not be exercised for contracts: […]

13° For the supply of digital content not supplied on a tangible medium, where performance has begun before the end of the withdrawal period and, if the contract places the consumer under an obligation to pay, where:

a) the consumer has given prior express consent for performance of the contract to begin before the end of the withdrawal period; and

b) the consumer has acknowledged that they will lose their right of withdrawal; and

c) the trader has provided confirmation of the consumer’s agreement in accordance with the second paragraph of Article L. 221-13.”

The same rule applies throughout the European Union (Article 16(m) of Directive 2011/83/EU), and similar rules apply in the United Kingdom.

In practice, for Séance:

  • before you pay, the reseller’s checkout page asks you to expressly agree that your license key be supplied immediately, without waiting for the 14-day period to end, and to acknowledge that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal;
  • confirmation of this agreement is sent to you on a durable medium, together with your order confirmation;
  • once the key has been supplied, the right of withdrawal can no longer be exercised.

You can still get a full refund, no questions asked, within 30 days, wherever you live, under the money-back guarantee described below.

If you still have this right, for example because your key has not been supplied yet, you can withdraw within 14 days of the conclusion of the contract:

  • online, using the online withdrawal function provided by the reseller (Article L221-21 of the French Consumer Code), which you can reach in particular from its order confirmation email;
  • or by sending the reseller, or us, a clear statement of your decision, for example by email to [email protected], if you wish using the model form at the end of this page.

You will then be refunded all sums paid, using your original payment method, without undue delay and at the latest 14 days after your decision is received (Article L221-24 of the French Consumer Code). Your license then ends and your key is no longer valid.

Money-back guarantee

In addition to your statutory rights, we offer you the following commercial guarantee. This text, together with the box in the “Legal guarantees” section, is the “Money-back guarantee” commercial guarantee contract; it is sent to you on a durable medium with your license key.

  • What it covers: a full refund of the price paid for your license, with no need to give a reason.
  • Duration: 30 days from the date of purchase.
  • Price: free, included in the license price.
  • Territory: every country where Séance is sold.
  • How to use it: email us at [email protected] before the period ends, stating the email address used for the purchase or your order number. We process your request within five business days, and the reseller refunds you using your original payment method; how long the money takes to reach your account then depends on your bank. Your license then ends and your key is no longer valid.
  • Exclusions: fraudulent purchases or clear abuse, such as repeated purchases and refunds of licenses.
  • Guarantor: EURL ZENATI, 60 rue François Ier, 75008 Paris, France. Phone: +33 1 86 26 99 70. Email: [email protected].

This commercial guarantee applies without prejudice to your right to the legal guarantee of conformity, under Articles L224-25-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code, and to the guarantee against hidden defects, under Articles 1641 to 1649 of the French Civil Code. These legal guarantees are summarized in the box in the next section.

Legal guarantees

Séance is supplied to you by EURL ZENATI. We are directly answerable to you for any lack of conformity of Séance, in addition to any rights you may have against the reseller. The legal guarantees apply to the lifetime license, which is bought for a price; they do not apply to the free trial.

French law requires the following information to be given. This is an English translation; the French text in the French version of these Terms prevails.

Legal guarantee of conformity and guarantee against hidden defects

The consumer is entitled to invoke the legal guarantee of conformity if a lack of conformity appears within two years of the supply of the digital content or digital service. During this period, the consumer only has to establish the existence of the lack of conformity, not the date on which it appeared.

The legal guarantee of conformity entails an obligation to supply all the updates necessary to keep the digital content or digital service in conformity for at least two years from supply.

The legal guarantee of conformity entitles the consumer to have the digital content or digital service brought into conformity without undue delay following their request, free of charge and without significant inconvenience to them.

The consumer may obtain a price reduction while keeping the digital content or digital service, or may end the contract and obtain a full refund in return for giving up the digital content or digital service, if:

1° the trader refuses to bring the digital content or digital service into conformity;

2° bringing the digital content or digital service into conformity is unjustifiably delayed;

3° the digital content or digital service cannot be brought into conformity without costs being imposed on the consumer;

4° bringing the digital content or digital service into conformity causes significant inconvenience to the consumer;

5° the lack of conformity persists despite the trader’s unsuccessful attempt to bring the digital content or digital service into conformity.

The consumer is also entitled to a price reduction or to end the contract where the lack of conformity is so serious that it justifies an immediate price reduction or termination of the contract. The consumer is then not required to ask first for the digital content or digital service to be brought into conformity.

Where the lack of conformity is minor, the consumer is only entitled to cancel the contract if the contract does not provide for payment of a price.

Any period during which the digital content or digital service is unavailable while it is being brought back into conformity suspends the remaining guarantee period until the digital content or digital service is supplied in conformity again.

These rights result from Articles L. 224-25-1 to L. 224-25-31 of the French Consumer Code.

A trader who obstructs the implementation of the legal guarantee of conformity in bad faith is liable to a civil fine of up to €300,000, which may be increased to 10% of average annual turnover (Article L. 242-18-1 of the French Consumer Code).

The consumer also benefits from the legal guarantee against hidden defects under Articles 1641 to 1649 of the French Civil Code, for two years from the discovery of the defect. This guarantee entitles the consumer to a price reduction if the digital content or digital service is kept, or to a full refund in return for giving up the digital content or digital service.

If you live outside France, you may also have rights under the mandatory law of your country of residence.

How to make a claim

  • Email us at [email protected] and describe the problem. We may ask about your setup (Mac model, macOS version) to check whether the problem comes from your digital environment; the cooperation we ask of you is limited to the least intrusive means available.
  • Séance is normally brought into conformity through a corrective update, free of charge.
  • Where a price reduction or refund is due, it is paid through the reseller, using your original payment method, no later than 14 days after we are informed of your decision (Article L224-25-23 of the French Consumer Code).
  • We let you know about updates needed to keep Séance in conformity on the website, by email if we have your address, or in the app. If we have told you that an update is available and what happens if you don’t install it, and you do not install it within a reasonable time, we are not responsible for a lack of conformity resulting solely from that, unless this is due to shortcomings in our installation instructions (Article L224-25-25 of the French Consumer Code).

Support and security

Support

Free support is provided by email at [email protected], in French or English. We aim to reply within three business days. No minimum level of service quality is offered. Many answers are already on the Support page.

Security incidents

If a security incident or vulnerability affected Séance, we might in particular: release a corrective update; let you know in the app, on the website and, if we have your address, by email; recommend precautions, such as installing the update or temporarily switching on offline mode; and replace a compromised license key with a new one.

Accessibility

Séance is not a product specifically designed for people with disabilities. The app uses standard macOS components and supports several of the system’s accessibility features: VoiceOver, Reduce Motion, keyboard navigation and shortcuts, and subtitles. Any change to this information is published in these Terms.

Liability

We are liable to you for the proper performance of our obligations, as provided by law. We are not liable where a failure or damage is attributable to you (for example use contrary to the license agreement or on an incompatible setup), to the unforeseeable and unavoidable act of a third party, or to force majeure within the meaning of Article 1218 of the French Civil Code.

Title information and images come from independent third-party services that we do not control: their availability and accuracy do not depend on us, subject to the legal guarantee of conformity.

Séance only acts on your files when you ask it to (“Ranger mes fichiers”, “Rapatrier sur ce Mac”) and after showing you a preview. As with any software that handles files, we recommend that you keep an up-to-date backup of your videos.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes the rights you have under the law, including the law of your country of residence.

Personal data

Séance works without an account and without collecting data about how you use it. The data needed for your purchase is processed by the reseller and by us, as explained in our privacy policy.

Complaints and mediation

If you have a problem, please email us first at [email protected] or write to our registered office: most issues are resolved quickly this way.

If your written complaint is not resolved, you can refer the dispute free of charge to the consumer mediator we are registered with (Articles L612-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code):

  • [Médiateur de la consommation à désigner]
  • Address: [Adresse postale du médiateur]
  • Website: https://www.economie.gouv.fr/mediation-conso

You can only refer a dispute to the mediator after first trying to resolve it directly with us through a written complaint, and no later than one year after that complaint (Article L612-2 of the French Consumer Code). Mediation is optional: you remain free to go to court, and each party is free to accept or reject the proposed solution.

If you live in another EU country, Iceland or Norway, the European Consumer Centre in your country can also help with a cross-border dispute. For questions about payment or your invoice, you can also contact the reseller under its terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by French law. If you habitually live in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of that country (for residents of the European Union, Article 6 of Regulation (EC) No 593/2008, “Rome I”).

If no amicable solution is found:

  • if you live in France, you can bring proceedings, at your choice, before any court with territorial jurisdiction under the French Code of Civil Procedure, or before the court of the place where you lived when the contract was concluded or when the harmful event occurred (Article R631-3 of the French Consumer Code);
  • if you live in another EU Member State, you can bring proceedings before the courts of France or of the place where you are domiciled, and we can only bring proceedings against you before the courts of your country (Article 18 of Regulation (EU) No 1215/2012);
  • if you live elsewhere, you keep any right to go to the courts of your country that its mandatory law gives you.

Changes

We may change these Terms for the future. The version that applies to your purchase is the one in force on the date of your order; a new version does not apply to past purchases unless it is more favorable to you.

Withdrawal form

Complete and return this form only if you wish to withdraw and still have that right (see “Right of withdrawal”). You can also use the reseller’s online withdrawal function.

Model withdrawal form
